Summit 17 – The Scouting Conference
Posted on 2 April 2017
On 1st and 2nd of April, members of The Scout Association came together at Warwick University for the Scouting conference. ‘Summit 17’ brought together District, County and National management teams for Scouting including the District Commissioner, Mike Waters, and Deputy District Youth Commissioner, Ryan Adamson, from Grimsby and Cleethorpes District.
The purpose of the event was to review the successes so far and plan growth of Scouting for the years to come, with the objectives being Future, Engage and Deliver. The event kicked off on Saturday morning with briefings from the UK Commissioner, Tim Kid, UK Youth Commissioners and even Scout Ambassador, Steve Backshall. The day included debating panels, breakout sessions and inspirational presentations all to help shape the future of Scouting and its members.
Along with this, Summit 17 included the ‘Scouting For All’ awards which highlighted the achievements of individuals, Districts and Counties from across the UK. Amongst these awards, Humberside County won the ‘Better Prepared’ award. This award represents the County in the most deprived areas and the greatest number of young people engaged in Scouting. The award was received by our Deputy District Youth Commissioner, Ryan Adamson and Liz Fraser, the County Commissioner.
Following an evening of networking and celebrations following the award ceremony, on Sunday the event was rounded off again by members of the UK team. The event went a long way to help point Scouting in the best direction for it to continue to grow and improve. The Summit allowed delegates to share ideas and best practice.
We spoke to Ryan following Summit 17 to find out his best bits. “The highlight was being able to see the vast network of inspirational and dedicated commissioners who will be leading our movement into the future. Rest assured Scouting is in safe hands.”
