St. George’s Day Celebrations

Posted on 25 April 2017

One of the biggest days in the Scout calendar is always St. George’s day. This year was no different. On Sunday 23rd April members of all sections came together at People’s Park for a day of fun activities to honour the patron saint of Scouting St. George.

The day began by the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and leaders parading around People’s park, many of whom were dressed as St. George and carrying dragons that they had made at prior meetings before the event.
After parading around the Grimsby park, the participants were greeted by the District Youth Commissioner Team, Emily Brown and Ryan Adamson, who read the story of St George.

This was followed by District Commissioner, Mike Waters, presenting awards to various groups and members based on their recent achievements within Scouting. They were each presented with certificates and badges before all Scouting members at the event renewed their promises.

After the promise renewal the participants got to take part in fun activities based in the park including plate spinning, a rope maze, and even making their own armpit fudge!

A wonderful day was had by all members and was highly commended by all as having a real feel of community.

Emily Brown, District Youth Commissioner, reflected on the day: “I thought it was a great way to celebrate St. George, the Patron Saint of Scouting. The young people were a credit to the Movement and put so much effort into costumes and model dragons. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone come together to remake their Promise and it was great for it to be the first major event for the District Youth Commissioner Team”.
