New Youth Commissioner Team

In a bid to make Scouting more Youth Shaped, Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Scouts is proud to announce its first Youth Commissioner team in the form of Emily Brown as District Youth Commissioner (DYC) and Ryan Adamson as Deputy District Youth Commissioner (DDYC).
The two 18 year olds currently studying at Caistor Grammar School have already been busy at events and meetings around the district helping young people in Scouting to get their views across of how the organisation can be improved on a local and regional level. Further to this the team has also been educating leaders on how to make their activities more youth shaped.
As DYC and DDYC, the duo will act as a catalyst to engage young people in decision making within the Grimsby and Cleethorpes District and across Humberside. Whether this is helping to run youth forums, represent young people at executive committee meetings, or inspiring young people aged between 6 and 18 to take on leadership roles within their groups, the team are motivated to make a big difference to their local Scouting community.
Emily and Ryan have both started in Beavers at the age of 6 and have grown through the movement since then. They hope that their work can help to make young people more connected to the organisation rather than all decisions being made by leaders.
“We would like to encourage the young people involved in Scouting in the area to take control of their adventure” Says Emily. “Our mission is to help both the leaders and young people understand that Scouting can be made even better when adults and young people work together towards a common aim. We will be visiting many groups to hopefully inspire them to be more youth shaped”.
Lee Woolsey, Deputy District Commissioner, spoke of the improvements that the new team will make to the district. “We are really proud to welcome Emily and Ryan to our District senior leadership team. They both bring enthusiasm, positive energy and confidence to our work in changing young people’s lives across North East Lincolnshire”.
“We are committed to ensuring that Scouting at all levels is shaped by young people in partnership with adults. Emily and Ryan will work with our 14 Scout Groups to ensure that young people are involved in decision making and shaping their Scouting adventure.”
