GYC Network take part in the Monopoly Run!
Posted on 9 April 2017
The Monopoly Run is an annual event that takes place in London. Teams of Explorers, Network members and leaders have 9 hours to race round the capital visiting as many of 50 specific locations as they possibly can. At each locations the teams have to take photos, and answer questions based on their location, if they can find it that is!
This year’s race drew in over 200 teams from around the UK including a team of 4 Network members from Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Network (GYCNET). Harriet Burniston, Ryan Adamson, Lawrence Cottingham and Adam Clarkson camped over night before the event at Scout Park (near Bounds Green) in London before setting off on their 9 hour adventure early on Saturday morning.
The team travelled from Bounds Green via Tube to locations including Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Kings Cross, Southbank, Green Park and Trafalgar Square. In fact, in 9 hours, the team ran and walked 28km as well as covering longer distances on the tube. Just to add to the challenge, the weekend saw some of the hottest weather so far in 2017.
The 4 members crossed the finish line at 6:15pm after 9 hours in the race. In that time they covered over 35 locations and scores of bonuses. The results were announced the following morning and revealed that the Grimsby and Cleethorpes team had won over 1005 points and managed to come in an impressive 5th place overall in the Network category.
Adam Clarkson, one member of the GYC team reflected on an impressive race: “We had a great time this weekend running around London for the Monopoly Run. It’s an event that’s very unique as it allows you to see the sights around London but at the same time was quite challenging as there’s lots of locations to visit in a short time. We were over the moon to have come 5th place but we’ll be back next year to claim the trophy!”
